Building Caster

Unlikely Creatures with Jeff Niemasz

Here's an idea:  Imagine a world in which shadows are fixed in place while objects twist and contort to follow the sun throughout the day.  This strange notion owes its inspiration to the architectural drawings of Aldo Rossi.  In Rossi's work, shadows are inky black masses and buildings are light, ethereal traces.  In many of these drawings, the buildings are nothing more than negative space between shadows.  Building Caster takes literally Rossi's graphic suggestion that shadows are primary, reversing the shadow's dependency on building form.
